New Rochelle High School Names New Head Football Coach
After helping to lead his embattled football team to a state championship, New Rochelle High School assistant varsity coach Raymond Rhett, Jr. has been named the permanent replacement for former longtime coach Lou DiRienzo. The New Rochelle Board of Education announced this week that Rhett was officially taking over the Huguenots after he and fellow assistant coach Greg Foster took over the team when DiRienzo got benched amid a police investigation. Connecticut HS Football Coaching Legend Bill Mignault Dies
William F. Mignault, a legendary high school football coach in Connecticut, has died at the age of 90. The Connecticut High School Hall of Famer, who started the football program at Ledyard High School and served as its coach for more than four decades, died on Tuesday, Oct. 1, the school announced. During his career, Mignault became the winningest coach in Connecticut history with a total of 321 wins while he was at the helm at Ledyard before retiring at the age of 78. Longtime women’s college basketball coach Cathy Inglese, who was hired by Hofstra as associate head coach earlier this summer, died after suffering a traumatic brain injury in a fall. The 60-year-old, who was head coach at Boston College from 1993 through 2008 - making the NCAA Sweet 16 three times - was hired by Hofstra in June. Christopher Daniel Farulla of Leonia died suddenly Aug. 21. He was 29 years old. Most recently of Phoenix, A.Z., Farulla was a longtime resident of Leonia where he was a high school wrestler and football player. He wrestled in the 2007 New Jersey State Wrestling Championships, earning the title Region 2 Champion. He later became a wrestling coach and mentor to countless high school athletes.
