Witnesses Sought After Serious I-81 Crash At Ramp In Carlisle (

Police activity shuttered a ramp along Interstate 81 in Central Pennsylvania on Saturday night and now officers are searching for witnesses. The ramp closure was first announced by Carlisle Police at 5:58 p.m. on Dec. 30, but on Wednesday, Jan. 3, the police said the crash really happened around 4:45 p.m. A two-vehicle caused the initial closure at Walnut Bottom Road and I-81 Exit 45:College Street off-ramp in Carlisle Borough, according to Carlisle PD. Traffic on Interstate 81 was already moving a bit slow due to the fog when a crash led to an additional slowdown on Thursday morning, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The multiple-vehicle crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-81, approximately .8 miles from Exit 29: PA 174 - King Street, near Shippensburg, according to PennDOT's 511PA. A tractor-trailer crashed on Interstate 81 — rolling over, spilling goods and fuel, and injuring the driver, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler told Daily Voice on Wednesday morning. Sedan Fire Closed US Rt 222 In Ephrata: Officials (

A third vehicle fire was reported on a major highway in Central Pennsylvania on Thursday morning. A four-door sedan caught fire on Route 222 North shortly before 8 a.m. on Dec. 14, according to a release by West Earl Fire Station 29. Volunteer firefighters took Engine 29-1 to the and quickly extinguished the fire, officials with the station explained. The vehicle fire briefly closed the roadway just south of the Ephrata Exit. At least two vehicles caught fire on Interstate 81 in Central Pennsylvania on Thursday morning. The incident appears to have started when a tractor-trailer attempted to pull on the right shoulder on I-81 near Exit 37: Newville in Penn Township around 6:15 a.m. on Dec. 14, PennDOT spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler told Daily Voice. Tractor Trailer Bursts Into Flames On I-81 In Northern VA
A tractor trailer burst into flames on Monday, Nov. 6 on Interstate 81, officials said. It happened around 7 a.m. on the northbound side near milepost 251, in Rockingham County, Virginia State Police said. The vehicle suffered a mechanical issue which caused the blaze. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured during the incident. Both sides of the Interstate are closed for precaution. VDOT is on the scene and assisting with the roadway closure and detour. An RV fire turned brush fire halted traffic on Interstate 81 near the Maryland and Pennsylvania state lines on Wednesday, authorities told Daily Voice. The RV's brakes caught fire near 14: PA 316 - Wayne Avenue around 2:27 p.m. on Oct. 25, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Fritzi Schreffler explained. A tractor-trailer driver has died after driving off Interstate 81 — onto the train tracks below, authorities announced Monday night. James C. Hayworth, 58, of Chatsworth, GA was trapped in his trailer after accidentally driving his vehicle off I-81 onto the train tracks below, the Pennsylvania State Police explained in a release the following morning. He initially survived the crash and fall, so emergency crews made "many attempts" to rescue him. Pedestrian 'Incident' On I-81 At Maryland Border Clears: PennDOT
Part of Interstate 81 shut down in Central Pennsylvania on Friday morning, according to Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler. The "pedestrian-related incident" happened at mile marker 1 on Sept. 22 shortly before 7:40 a.m., Schreffler detailed to Daily Voice. The southbound lanes closed between exit 3 to Molly Pitcher Highway and the Maryland border, according to PennDOT. Multi-Car Crash On I-81 Jams Traffic For 8 Miles
A crash on Interstate 81 backed up traffic for nearly eight miles on Friday, Sept. 15. It happened on the northbound side of the highway at mile marker 269.6 in the Shenandoah County.
