More Than 200 Layoffs Eyed In Yonkers Public Schools Amid Budget Crunch First Yonkers city government, now the Yonkers Public Schools. More than 200 school district employees face layoffs due to a $48 million budget gap in Yonkers, officials said on Tuesday, April. 9. Another $5 million in cuts are expected to balance the $604 million school budget. Possible layoffs include 83 teachers, 10 administrators, 116 civil service employees and two union members.
