Army Vet Struck Dead By Lighting While Playing Golf In Pennsylvania
Severe weather has claimed the life of a Pennsylvania man, who was struck by lightning during a round of golf. Joseph Slivinski, 71, of Lackawanna County, was struck by lightning while playing golf on Friday at Pine Hills Golf Course, according to the county coroner. Slivinski was attempting to find shelter when he was fatally injured, he died at the golf course around 1:30 p.m. A South Jersey golfer was struck and killed by lightning last month. Storms Knock Out Power To Hundreds In Massachusetts
Eversource had all hands on deck after a lightning strike damaged a power line during a round of storms that swept through Massachusetts, knocking out power to hundreds in the commonwealth, the company said. Crews went to work at approximately 11 a.m. on Monday, June 14, when lightning burned a power line on Amherst Road in Amherst, leaving dozens without power as the company made repairs. Firefighters responded to a reported lightning strike to a home on Richlee Road, Monday, Aug. 19 at 4:50 p.m., said the fire department. An intense thunderstorm over the weekend in the Rhinebeck area kept firefighters on the run, especially when a house was struck by lightning. The incident took place around 2:56 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, on Montgomery Street off Route 9 in Rhinebeck, said Rhinebeck Fire Department Spokesman Jeff Cotter. A Wyckoff police dashcam captured video of a lightning strike Friday afternoon that zapped a power line, knocking out power to several customers -- as well as area traffic signals. The bolt hit the line at 12:15 p.m. near the intersection of Wyckoff and Russell avenues, leaving it burning in the roadway, Lt. Joseph Soto said.
