Two New York men wanted in separate violent crimes were tracked down last month in Bergen County, thanks to the county's newly-launched Crime Suppression Team, authorities said.
The first arrest was made on Saturday, Dec. 21, when members of the team identified 51-year-old Randolph R. Smith of Far Rockaway, NY, who was wanted in connection with an armed robbery that occurred in New York City, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. A 74-year-old North Bergen man was sentenced on Wednesday, Oct. 16, to 35 years in prison for fatally stabbing a man in 2021, authorities said.
On Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, Augusto Perez stabbed Omar Cruz, a 64-year-old Albany, NY resident, to death behind the Ulta Beauty store in the Bergen Town Center mall in Maywood, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Muella said.

A 40-year-old Virginia man has been charged with sexual assault in Bergen County, NJ, authorities said.
David Persaud, of Woodbridge, VA, is accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile multiple times in 2003 in Englewood, NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
At the time, the victim was between 13 and 18 years old, Musella said.
The investigation into Persaud was launched on Wednesday, May 29. He was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 8 at his home in Virginia and remanded to the Prince William County Adult Detention Center pending extradition to New Jersey.
