Severe Thunderstorm Watch: Storms With Downpours, Gusty Winds, Lightning Moving Through Area With an increase in the chance for storms Friday afternoon and evening, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is now in effect for the area. The watch, issued at 3:40 p.m. by the National Weather Service, is in effect until 11 p.m. Friday. Among the counties covered by the watch are Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Rockland, Orange and Fairfield. Isolated storms began to develop in the area in the mid-afternoon and are now moving eastward. (See radar image above.) The storm, moving west to east, was located over Mount Kisco, just before 3 p.m. moving northeast at 35 mph. Wind gusts in excess of 40 mph and pea size hail are possible with this storm. Severe Storms Knock Out Power To Hundreds In Fairfield County Hundreds of Fairfield County residents were left in the dark on Wednesday afternoon as intense thunderstorms struck the area. As of 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Eversource was reporting nearly 139 outages in Connecticut, including several Fairfield County municipalities. Weston is reporting the most outages with 446. Ridgefield has 307 and Greenwich 242. Other outages were reported in Wilton, Westport, and Stamford.  Complete power restoration is expected before the end of the day to all municipalities.

Severe Storms Knock Out Power To Nearly 1,000 In Putnam Nearly a thousand Putnam County residents have been left in the dark as lightning and thunderstorms have rocked the region on Tuesday afternoon. NYSEG reported that 988 of their 38,310 customers in the county were in the dark as of 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. In total, 3,420 NYSEG customers in the area were reporting outages, including a handful in Dutchess, Orange and Westchester counties. In Putnam, Patterson was hit the hardest, with 914 customers reporting outages. Additional outages were reported in Kent (53), Putnam Valley (20) and Southeast (one). No estimated time of restoration…
