Increased State Aid Could Lead To Full Day Kindergarten At North Rockland HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. -- Could full-day kindergarten be finally coming to North Rockland? Gov. Andrew Cuomo's proposed budget would increase state aid to districts who adopt full-day kindergarten. The North Rockland school district is one of five districts in the state that does not offer full-day kindergarten. Cuomo's proposal would offer funding the first year and then the state would cover half the costs in the second year. Currently, districts must pay for all of the costs in year two. Man Charged With Felony DWI Following Crash In Yorktown A 38-year-old Cortlandt Manor man was charged with felony DWI after a two-car accident Saturday afternoon at Old Crompond Road and Pine Grove Court. Giovanni Loaiza was charged with a felony because he had a prior driving while intoxicated conviction in the last 10 years. He was also charged with driving with a revoked license, a Class E felony and refusing to submit to a breathalyzer test. Loaiza was transported to Westchester County Jail and is due back in court on Jan. 16 at 6 p.m.

Mahopac Man No-Shows Court Appearance, Yorktown Police Say A 36-year-old Mahopac man was arrested and charged with bail jumping after police say he failed to show up for a court appearance. James Hosford was charged with bail jumping in the third degree, a Class A misdemeanor after police pulled him over for a vehicle and traffic infraction and discovered an active warrant out for his arrest Wednesday. Hosford was processed and is being held pending arraignment. Westchester-Based IBM Fourth Quarter Earnings Exceed Estimates ARMONK, N.Y. -- The fourth quarter was a good one for IBM, which is headquartered in Armonk. The company announced revenue of $22.5 billion, an increase of 4 percent. The revenue beat investor expectations. The company earned about $5.18 per share, also beating investor expectations. Mahopac Resident Named New Schools Superintendent Anthony DiCarlo is the new man in charge of Mahopac's public schools. DiCarlo, who lives in Mahopac, was given a five-year contract by the Mahopac Board of Education at Thursday's meeting to be the district's new superintendent. DiCarlo, who serves as principal of Trinity Elementary School in New Rochelle, starts on Feb. 26. Cynthia Nixon Says 'Maybe' To Challenging Cuomo Cynthia Nixon, known for playing Miranda on the HBO series "Sex and the City," is now giving a definite "Maybe" regarding a possible primary challenge to New York Gov. Mount Pleasant CSD Superintendent Announces Retirement Susan Guiney is stepping aside. The Mount Pleasant Central School District superintendent announced her retirement at Wednesday's board meeting, effective in July. Guiney originally joined in the district in July 2008 as director of curriculum.
