A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Conklin was born in Peekskill in 1938 to Gladys and Fred Conklin, who predeceased her, along with her brothers Jimmy and Elmer and sisters Marie and Charlotte. Conklin was the proprietor of two small businesses, a candy store and a variety store in Peekskill in the 1970s.
