An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Bedford Attorney Running For GOP Nod In Latimer's State Senate District A Republican is now throwing his hat in the ring to represent the 37th district. Sarmad Khojasteh, a Bedford attorney, announced he is running to represent the 37th Senate District set to be vacated when Senator George Latimer becomes Westchester County Executive. Khojasteh is the first Republican to announce his candidacy. Four Democrats, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer, Bedford Supervisor Chris Burdick and teacher Kat Brezler have also entered the race. Latimer Appoints Jenkins As Deputy County Executive Westchester County Executive-elect George Latimer is filling up his office. Latimer announced four appointments to his administration, including retiring County Legislator Ken Jenkins (D-Yonkers) as Deputy County Executive. Latimer defeated Jenkins in the Democratic primary in September. Mount Peter Kicks Off Ski Season WARWICK, N.Y. -- Skiers rejoice. Your time has come. Mount Peter Ski Area kicked off its 82d season on Saturday, officially opening for 2017-2018. Greenburgh Remembers Richard Edelson, Longtime Volunteer GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Richard Edelson, a longtime first responder in the Town of Greenburgh died Sunday at the age of 76. Edelson, inducted into the Westchester Senior Citizens Hall of Fame last year, was a captain of the town's Community Emergency Response Team. Rockland Rallies Around Foster Children For Holiday Season Rockland residents are making sure everyone has a happy holiday season.Numerous people and organizations donated toys, clothes, food and other holidays to help foster children and others receiving help from the Department of Social Services. Gillibrand Renews Call For Trump Resignation In Newburgh Appearance U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) is not backing down after she called for President Donald Trump to resign over allegations of sexual misconduct. Lawmakers Praise Cuomo's Call To Take Guns Away From Domestic Abusers Lawmakers are mostly applauding proposed legislation from Gov. Andrew Cuomo that would demand people convicted of domestic violence surrender their firearms. Cuomo's legislation would automatically remove all firearms from those who commit any domestic violence crime. Previously, those convicted of domestic abuse only had to surrender handguns. Equilibrium Sells Brewing In Middletown For the past year, Equilibrium Brewery has been proud to call Middletown home. Equilibrium began selling brewing at its headquarters at 22 Henry Street and is run by Ricardo Petroni and his partner Peter Oates, who are both environmental engineers. Schumer Calls On Feds To Approve Permit For Orange County Legoland GOSHEN, N.Y. -- U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is urging the Army Corps of Engineers to approve a wetlands permit that would allow a Legoland to be built in Goshen.The Legoland New York theme park and hotel, built by Merlin Entertainment, will create 500 permanent full-time jobs, 500 seasonal jobs, 300 part-time jobs and 800 construction jobs, Schumer said. The project would generate $87 million in payments and property taxes to Goshen the Goshen Central Scool District and Orange County over the next 30 years, Schumer said. IBM, Pepsi Campuses In Somers Pitched For Amazon HQ2 The Town of Somers is making its pitch to reel in Amazon. Somers is hoping Amazon will be attracted to its former IBM and PepsiCo campuses and is one of 238 proposals being vetted by the company for its new $5 billion headquarters that is expected to create 50,000 jobs. It will not be easy for Somers, which is competing against places like Chicago. But the town has more than 1,540,000 square feet to attract Amazon with the possibility of building four buildings on the site.
