NY Bumps Starting Pay For Lifeguards Amid Staffing Shortage Lifeguards in New York are getting a pay raise. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a new directive Wednesday, June 22, increasing the starting pay rates for lifeguards at state park beaches and pools, as well as campgrounds and day-use area beaches. Newly hired lifeguards at upstate facilities will see a 34-percent increase in pay from $14.95 per hour to $20 per hour. And starting pay at downstate facilities will go up 21 percent from $18.15 per hour to $22 per hour. Guns, Ammo Found After Man Shoots Through Neighbor's Ceiling In Capital District, Police Say A Capital District man is accused of firing a handgun through a floor and into his neighbor’s apartment. Albany Police were called around 11 a.m. Monday, June 20, to a home on Madison Avenue near Robin Street. The resident told investigators that he found a bullet hole in the ceiling of his basement apartment that appeared to come from the unit directly above his, police said. Convicted Murderer Found Guilty Of Threatening Cops With Knife In Capital District A convicted murderer serving a life sentence has been found guilty of threatening police with a knife during an attempted arrest in the region. Najahliek Edmunds, age 26, of Albany, was arrested in October 2018 in Columbia County by Hudson Police. Officers had been called to the Hudson Terrace Apartments on Front Street for a domestic violence incident and encountered Edmunds holding a large kitchen knife, according to the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office. Police Investigating After Man Carjacked At Knifepoint On Long Island Police are looking for a group of men accused of carjacking a man at knifepoint on Long Island. The 21-year-old victim told Nassau County Police he was parked at the Inwood Railroad Station on Doughty Boulevard Tuesday, June 21, when six men approached him just before 10 p.m. One of the suspects brandished a knife and demanded the keys to his 2015 Honda, according to police. CT Man Indicted For Trafficking Fentanyl A Connecticut man is facing years in prison for allegedly selling fentanyl. New Haven County resident Gerardo Nunez-Irizarry, age 43, of Meriden, was indicted by a federal grand jury Tuesday, June 14, according to the US Attorney’s Office in Connecticut. Prosecutors said he sold fentanyl to undercover agents between June and November 2021. One of the sales involved 50 grams of the drug, prosecutors said. 'A Beautiful, Kind Soul': Hudson Valley Community Mourns Sudden Death Of Beloved Sixth-Grader Justin Reale spent the last Saturday of his life with family, mentioning how excited he was for the end of the school year and all the fun events that went along with it, his parents in Orange County told the Warwick Valley Central School District. Murder Suspect Accused Of Setting Fire To Capital District Business A man already jailed on murder charges has been accused of setting fire to a Capital District business in 2017. Saratoga County Sheriff’s deputies began investigating after someone broke into Curtis Lumber on State Route 67 in the Town of Ballston after the business closed on Nov. 27, 2017.
