NY Lifeguard Speaks Out After Being Attacked By Shark A Long Island lifeguard bitten by a shark during a training exercise is grateful he survived the attack and is counting his blessings. Smith Point Beach lifeguard Zachari Gallo, age 33, told CBS New York he felt a sharp, sharp pain around 10:15 a.m., Sunday, July 3, during a training exercise with other lifeguards and reached down and felt a rubbery texture. As soon as he felt the texture he knew it was a shark and hit the estimated 5-foot shark three times in an effort to escape. Bicyclist Killed In Long Island Crash With Car, Police Say A 70-year-old bicyclist was killed when he crashed with a car on Long Island. The crash took place in Suffolk County in Amagansett around 11:15 a.m., Sunday, July 3 on Montauk Highway. Russell Windsor, age 70, of Amagansett, was killed when he entered the highway from the eastbound shoulder of the road and collided with a 2011 Toyota Sienna driven by Mohammad Rahman, said Det. Sgt. 8-Year-Old Found Dead From Possible Drowning In Backyard Pool In Hudson Valley, Police Say An 8-year-old was found dead partially submerged in a backyard pool and a man was discovered alongside the pool in critical condition in the Hudson Valley. Boy, 8, Seriously Injured In Two-Vehicle CT Crash, State Police Say An 8-year-old boy was seriously injured during a two-car crash in Connecticut.
