Don't Fall For It: Local Resident Loses $12,000 In Scam Several area police agencies are investigating grand larceny complaints after a resident was allegedly scammed out of $12,000. According to Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra, the scammer -- who is operating in Ulster County -- called a town resident, reporting to be an attorney representing the victim’s grandson, telling the victim he needed to pay $12,000 cash to have his grandson released from jail. Mother, Son Escape After House Fire Breaks Out In Area A mother and a son managed to escape an intense Hudson Valley house fire that was gas-fed. The fire took place around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at a two-family home located in Putnam County at 2592 Carmel Ave., in Brewster. According to the Brewster Fire Department, first arriving firefighters were given reports of a mother and son still trapped in the fully engulfed home. Local Business Owner Helps Police Apprehend Wanted Fugitive An area business owner helped police capture a fugitive from justice wanted for a robbery. Christopher Rega, age 39, undomiciled, was arrested in Ulster County on Tuesday, Feb. 1, after Saugerties Police responded to the Wenton Motel located at 3127 Route 9W in the Town of Saugerties for a reported disturbance on Monday, Jan. 31. Police Asking For Help Identifying Man Found Dead In Suffolk Police are asking the public for help after a man was found dead at a tent encampment on Long Island. The Hispanic man, known only as "Oscar," was found around 10:50 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 3 in a wooded area located south of Riverhead Building Supply, at 1093 Pulaski Street, and south of the nearby Long Island Railroad tracks. Area Man Arrested Twice In Three Days For Mulitple Thefts, Police Say A man from the region has been arrested twice in three days for allegedly stealing credit and debit cards out of vehicles and using them at area businesses. CT Man Accused Of Cyberstalking, Threatening Woman A Connecticut man has been arrested for allegedly threatening, harassing, and intimidating a woman from the region through social media and email. Marshall Nicholas Fain, age 31, of New Haven, was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 2, and charged with one count of cyberstalking and one count of transmitting threats through interstate commerce, said the US Attorney's Office for the District of Massachusetts. Police Officer Injured In Three-Vehicle Westchester Crash, Police Say Two people were injured including a police officer during a three-vehicle crash in Westchester. The crash -- which involved a Greenburgh Police car -- took place around 1:50 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 3 in the Four Corners area of East Hartsdale and Central Park avenues in Greenburgh. According to Greenburgh Police, details were still coming in, but two people were transported to the hospital including a Greenburgh police officer. Their conditions were not known, said Lt. Crash Involving Two Planes Reported At Long Island MacArthur Airport A single-engine plane with two people aboard struck a parked jet while taxiing at Long Island MacArthur Airport. The incident took place early Wednesday, Feb. 2 when a single-engine Pilatus PC-12 aircraft struck a Hawker jet at the Ronkonkoma airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said. Covid-19: Hospitalized Springfield Police Officer Battling For His Life After Contracting Virus A longtime Western Massachusetts police officer is fighting for his life in a hospital after contracting COVID-19.
