56-Year-Old Woman Dies In Alexandria Hit-And-Run Crash: Police A hit-and-run driver killed a 56-year-old Alexandria woman as she crossed a street in Fairfax County on Wednesday night, July 6, authorities said. Doris Anita McPhail was hit as she walked in the 5600 block of Richmond Highway near Huntington Avenue around 10:30 p.m., Fairfax County police said. Paramedics rushed her to a hospital, but she died of her injuries early Thursday morning. It's the first location in Arlington County for the chain and is part of the company's push into Northern Virginia. Fairfax County Detectives Have Solved 'Christmas Tree Lady' Case 25 Years Later For 25 years, Fairfax County police have not given up on solving one of the department's more perplexing cases. Now they have an answer. The Fairfax County Police Department announced on Thursday, July 7, that cold case detectives identified the woman who they have been calling "The Christmas Tree Lady" since they found her body on Dec. 18, 1996. Helicopter Lands On I-395 To Assist Officer, Driver Captures It All Everything is a landing site during an emergency. A medivac pilot proved that on Wednesday, July 6, after they landed a helicopter on Interstate 395 to rescue a police officer. Park police requested the helicopter to rescue a motorcycle officer who'd crashed on Maine Avenue, WJLA said. Firefighters Close I-495 After Tractor-Trailer Catches Fire In Fairfax County Firefighters closed a portion of Interstate 495 just before rush hour on Wednesday, July 6, after a tractor-trailer burst into flames in Fairfax County, authorities said.
