30-Year-Old Seriously Injured After Being Struck By Car On Long Island A man is hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a car on Long Island. The incident happened at around 1:45 a.m. Monday, June 19 in Jamesport, on Sound Avenue near Pier Avenue. An investigation by the Riverhead Town Police Department found that a 30-year-old Riverhead man was walking in the roadway when he was struck by a Ford pickup truck driving eastbound. 'Catastrophic' Fire Destroys 150-Year-Old Church On Long Island A Long Island church that dates back over a century was destroyed in an early-morning fire. Firefighters in Central Islip were called shortly before 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning, June 18, with reports of a fire at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah, located on Carleton Avenue. According to the Islip Fire Department, crews from multiple agencies spent nearly two hours on scene. Woman Found Shot To Death Inside Long Island Home Detectives are investigating after a woman was found shot to death inside her Long Island home. The discovery was made at around 9:40 p.m. Monday, June 19, in Central Islip, at the Hawthorne Court apartments on Hawthorne Avenue. Family members told police they found 39-year-old Shayna Staton dead inside her apartment, according to Suffolk County Police. Staton was pronounced dead after suffering a gunshot wound, police said. Long Island resident Jason Kurland, age 49, of Dix Hills, was sentenced to 13 years in federal prison in US District Court in Brooklyn on Thursday, June 15. Home Builder Defrauded Multiple Contractors In Capital Region, Police Say A home builder in the region is accused of failing to pay contractors for their work, in one case knowingly issuing a bad check, authorities said. Aaron Godlewski, age 31, of Altamont, was arrested Tuesday, June 13, on suspicion of fraud and other charges, according to New York State Police.
