Ex-Police Officer In Westchester Accused Of Stealing More Than $157K From State
A retired Westchester County police officer and a former BOCES criminal justice instructor has been charged with allegedly swindling the state and local retirement system out of more than $157,000.
Anthony Sciacca, age 67, of Poughkeepsie, was charged Thursday, July 14, by state Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Ulster County District Attorney David J. Clegg, and the state police.
After retiring from the Westchester Police Department in 2005, Sciacca became an instructor at Ulster County BOCES teaching criminal justice and earning a salary of over $70,000, DiNapoli said.

Woman Charged With Stealing $400K From Seaford, Rockville Centre Churches, Police Say
A Long Island office administrator has been charged with grand larceny for allegedly stealing more than $400,000 from two area churches.
Iris Gomez, age 39, of East Islip, was charged on Wednesday, July 13 for the larcenies that occurred from August 2019 through January 2022 in Nassau County.

Fire Destroys Garage, Vehicles, Damages Long Island Home, Officials Say
A Long Island woman and her son were saved from a house fire after neighbors woke them up by ringing their doorbell.
The fire took place in Franklin Square around 11 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, on Howard Avenue.
Arriving Franklin Square firefighters were met with a large garage fire with multiple vehicles burning, hazardous materials, and a collapse of the garage, the Franklin Square Fire Department said.
Firefighters had the main body of fire quickly knocked down. Extension into the residence was kept to a minimum, the department added.
