Man Arrested For Possession Of Gun During Nassau County Traffic Stop, Police Say
An area man has been arrested for alleged criminal possession of a weapon during a traffic stop on Long Island.
Kevin Balam, age 54, of Queens, was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 11, in Malverne, said the Nassau County Police.
According to detectives, officers were on patrol in the confines of the Fifth Precinct when they spotted a red 2007 Chevrolet Malibu westbound on Pinebrook Avenue fail to signal a right turn onto Ocean Avenue.
During the stop, officers located a loaded handgun inside the vehicle, police said.

Fairfield County Man Charged With Sexual Assault, Police Say
Following a months-long investigation, a Fairfield County man has been arrested for an alleged sexual assault.
Shawn Santoro, age 33, of Trumbull, was arrested on Friday, Jan. 14 by the Newtown Police and charged with one count of sexual assault.
According to police, the arrest was the culmination of a several month-long investigation by the Newtown Police Department's Patrol Division, and Detective Bureau, into a reported sexual assault, the department said.
Santoro was released on a $100,000 surety bond.
Missing Southampton Kayaker Found Dead
A Long Island man who went missing on his kayak with his dog has been found dead.
John Jackman, age 55, of Southampton, was reported missing to police around 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 16 after taking out his kayak with his dog.
According to Southampton Police, family and friends became concerned after Jackman's dog returned home, but he did not.
Southampton Town Police Patrol Units, Community Response Units, Southampton Town Bay Constables, Suffolk County Aviation Unit, and Southampton Fire Department responded to the area to search for Jackman, police said.
