Arson: 27-Year-Old Disables Alarm Before Setting Fire To Capital Region Apartment, Police Say A 27-year-old man is accused of setting fire to an apartment complex in the region. Firefighters in Saratoga County were called at around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, for a structure fire in Ballston on Dominic Drive, according to New York State Police. Members of the Ballston Spa Fire Department isolated and extinguished the fire, and determined it was suspicious. There were no reports of injuries. Capital Region Man Sexually Abuses Children, Sends Victims Pornography, Police Say A man from the region is charged with multiple sex crimes after allegedly abusing two young children and sending them pornography. Rensselaer County resident Daniel Landfear, age 34, of Troy, was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 29, by New York State Police. According to investigators, Landfear had sexual contact with a 10-year-old child and forcibly touched a 16-year-old. Both incidents reportedly occurred in Troy. Hudson Valley Man Sexually Abuses 12-Year-Old, Police Say A 34-year-old man from the region is accused of sexually abusing a young child. Orange County resident Josh Horner, of Walden, was arrested Monday, Aug. 28, by New York State Police. According to troopers, Child Protective Services were tipped off that Horner was sexually abusing a 12-year-old child. A follow-up investigation reportedly confirmed the abuse. Walden is charged with felony and sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. Following his arraignment, he was ordered held at the Orange County jail on $5,000 bail. Bank Robbery Injuring Teller: 29-Year-Old Admits To Armed Heists At Capital Region Branches A 29-year-old man is facing years in federal prison after admitting his role in two armed bank robberies in the region, one of which injured an employee. Capital Region resident Ulysses Wall, of Rensselaer, pleaded guilty to multiple charges in Albany federal court on Monday, Aug. 21. Teacher Sexually Abuses Underage Student At School On Long Island, Police Say A teacher at a Long Island school is accused of sexually abusing an underage student. William Sperl, age 60, of Deer Park, was arrested at the Eastern Suffolk BOCES campus in Bellport on Tuesday, Aug. 29, according to Suffolk County Police. Investigators said Sperl engaged in a sexual relationship with a female student at the school’s Riverhead campus, where he works as an audio production teacher, in 2020.
