Dontie Mitchell, age 43, of Albany, was indicted on murder and related charges by an Albany County grand jury on Friday, Aug. 18, in the death of Shieer Leggett. Tragic Development: 5-Year-Old Dies After Being Found Unresponsive In Pool On Long Island A 5-year-old boy has died one day after he was found unresponsive in a swimming pool on Long Island. Emergency crews were initially called at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, after the boy’s mother found him in the pool at their East Moriches home on Woodcrest Drive, according to Suffolk County Police. The 44-year-old woman performed CPR on the boy until medics arrived and took him to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead.  He was later transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition. Kayaker Rescued After Suffering Medical Emergency At Long Island Lake A 59-year-old man is recovering after being rescued from a Long Island lake during a kayaking outing. Emergency crews were called at around 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, for a kayaker in distress at Lake Ronkonkoma, according to Suffolk County Police. The man suffered a medical emergency and his kayak began taking on water, prompting someone on shore to call 911, police said. Four members of the Suffolk County Police Department swam out to the man and brought him to shore. He was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was in stable condition.
