Weeks Of Full Closures Planned For Portion Of Northern State Parkway Scheduled roadwork could spell delays for Long Island drivers in the coming weeks. The westbound lanes of the Northern State Parkway are scheduled to close overnight between Exit 45 in Smithtown and Exit 42 in Huntington for three weeks, beginning Monday, Sept. 25. The roadway will close nightly from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. while crews complete a pavement resurfacing project, according to the Department of Transportation. Tobacco-Related Cancers Down In NY, New Report Finds Fewer New Yorkers are being diagnosed with tobacco-related cancers. A new report released by the state health department Thursday, Sept. 14, found that several of the cancers most often associated with smoking declined throughout the state between 2016 and 2020. Incident rates of esophageal, laryngeal, and lung cancer - those most closely related to tobacco use - steeply declined both in New York City and elsewhere in the state, the report found. Not So Fast: Drunk Driver Hits Utility Pole On Long Island, Tries Running Away, Police Say A 30-year-old man is facing drunk driving charges after allegedly crashing into a utility pole on Long Island and then fleeing on foot. The incident happened shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, in Eastport, at the intersection of Montauk Highway and South Bay Avenue.
